Overview
The Active Protection System (APS) is an advanced defensive
solution designed to detect, track, and neutralize incoming
threats before they impact a protected platform. Widely used
on tanks, armored vehicles, and other military platforms, APS
significantly enhances survivability in modern combat
environments.
By integrating radar, EO/IR sensors, countermeasures, and
fire-control systems, APS provides a comprehensive, layered
defense against threats such as anti-tank guided missiles
(ATGMs), rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), and other hostile
projectiles.
How APS Enhances Platform Survivability
APS continuously monitors the surrounding environment using
high-speed tracking radar and electro-optical / infrared
sensors. Upon detecting an incoming threat, the system rapidly
analyzes its trajectory and initiates an appropriate
countermeasure to neutralize the threat before impact.
The system supports both Soft Kill techniques—such as
electronic jamming and spoofing—and Hard Kill mechanisms that
physically intercept and destroy incoming projectiles,
ensuring layered and adaptable protection.
